・About this item

This is a three-layer carbon steel Santoku knife made in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, one of Japan's leading cutlery production areas. It was manufactured by Masahiro, a trusted and well-established knife company based in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture. The blade has been sharpened with a whetstone and cuts well.

This knife is an old model that is no longer being manufactured or sold. The type of carbon steel used is unknown, but Masahiro’s three-layer carbon steel Santoku knives with a bolster are often made with either Masahiro’s original steel or White #2 steel, so it is likely one of these.

On the left side of the blade, there is an engraving that reads “Registered Toto Masamune Honwarikomi.” Here, “Toto Masamune” is the name of this knife, and “Honwarikomi” means a three-layer construction.

Please note that the blade edge and the area around it are prone to rust. Be sure to wipe them dry after each use, as they will rust quickly if left wet.

Masahiro knives are sometimes sold at unbelievably low prices due to price wars between unauthorized resellers. In reality, they are not that cheap. Please also be careful of counterfeits if you are purchasing a new one.

・What is Seki Masahiro?

This company is one of the top manufacturers in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan's leading producer of cutlery, in every aspect, including history, reliability, and track record. They have been manufacturing and selling a variety of knives for professional and home use since 1932. They do not follow trends when it comes to knife design, but focus on designs that can remain a standard.
