・About this item
This is a three-layer Nakiri knife, most likely made of VG1, that was sold by Masaaki knife shop, located in Odawara City, Japan. Masaaki is not a manufacturer but a company specializing in sales and sharpening, so the knife was probably manufactured somewhere in Seki.
The exact steel type cannot be confirmed, but since the word “Gold” is engraved on the blade, it is most likely VG1, or possibly VG10.
Overall, the knife is in good condition, but there is a very slight gap in the handle. If that does not bother you, you can simply sharpen the blade and use it without any issues.
On the right side of the blade, the characters “Ni, Masaaki” are engraved. The meaning of “Ni” is unclear, but it probably refers to the second-generation shop owner. On the left side, the word “Hon-Warikomi” is engraved, which means three-layer construction.
・What is Odawara Masaaki?
They are a knife specialty shop located in Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. I only learned about their existence on August 27, 2025, so I do not know much about them yet. The shop is situated right in front of Odawara Fishing Port and mainly sells and sharpens knives for use at the fish market. The Yanagiba and Deba knives they handle are traded at relatively high prices in the Japanese secondhand market.
