・About this item

This is a Yanagiba knife manufactured in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading cutlery production areas. It has a Kasumi construction of White #2 carbon steel and soft iron, so the entire blade is prone to rust. Although there is a light layer of rust across the blade, the blade itself shows almost no wear. It may have been used only a few times before being left unused.

To be honest, I would like to sharpen this knife myself. However, since it is such a good knife, I thought there might be others who, like me, would prefer to sharpen it themselves. For that reason, I decided to sell it in this condition. If it does not sell, I plan to sharpen it to my preference and resell it.

On the right side of the blade, the engraving reads “Sakai Ichiji.” The sticker attached to the ferrule says “Sakai Hamono” (Sakai Cutlery).

・What is Sakai Ichiji Baba?

“Sakai Ichiji” is a series name, and the actual manufacturer is Baba. Baba was founded in 1916 in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture. They produce a wide range of kitchen knives, from stainless steel to carbon steel. They are one of the central companies in the Sakai Cutlery Association and are known for their high-end kitchen knives.
